I am so poor that…

Since Barcelona is in crisis and everyone here is suffering in their own way – we created this fun game to give it an entertaining and competitve spin.

it goes like this, you suggest a reason why you are  soo poor and then the other one has to try to find something that makes you even poorer:

– I am so poor that I have to eat the food that my fired colleagues left in the company fridge.

– I am so poor I cannot afford nail polish remover but have to scratch the nail polish off my nails

– I am so poor I am using the same single metro ticket for weeks

– I am so poor that I shop in supermarkets, where the salami and cheese are lock up (as luxury goods)

– I am so poor that I cannot afford freshly squezed Florida Grapefruit Juice

…more to come soon 😉

10 things I hate about Barcelona

It is not to be confused with hating Barcelona – I don’t hate it – I found my new home here, but some things…

here is my list:

1. The Crisis! In every way it if affect us here…

2. Prostitutes in the Ramblas at night, molesting people who walk by or trying the fast way to money by pickpocketing

3. Public transportation: bagsnatchers in the metro, sticky air on a bus, people getting to close to you – either being creepy men or also bagsnatchers AGAIN

4. “Nationalist” silly Catalan people – Barcelona only for Catalans – Tourists and Expats get out of our Barrio

5. The Rain – when it rains you dont only get wet, the world drowns and you drown with her – soaking wet! brrr

6. People spitting in the street – everywhere and all the time, actually worst area might be Raval, around my first apartment, sometimes I had to jump out of the way and the run from a cucaracha that was coming from the other side

7. Cucarachas – and for that matter all other small animals and insects bigger than my finger nail that are living a supposingly happy and sorrowfree life in Barcelona

8. Standing in line for free entrance to a club – everybody can get anywhere on a free guest or call it even VIP list. But then you have to stand in VIP line which is a dozen times longer (obviously) than normal peoples line

9. Powercuts and no hot water – AGAIN, well that is no joke – I spent entire weekends without electricty and believe me being a romantic hippie is just fun for so long

10. The Catalan Wall – or Catalan Blocker! People don’t respect personal space but that’s ok but they also just run into you! Or they just stop for no reason in the middle of the street (best to do in groups) so that you run into them, or come out of doors without looking, again to tackle you brutally! Why? God knows…

Amolala at Burlesque Show in Barcelona’s Sala Apolo

Last night we went to a really cool event in Barcelona, a Burlesque Show in Sala Apolo with a great audience as well – looked like a scene from the 50s crossed with a stylish tatoo shop! Guy in all 50s clothes with cool hair and girls in petticoats and corsetts, tatooed all over (mix between Betty Boop and Amy Winehouse) 🙂

taboo show poster

It was a great show with a kickass singer, Myriam Swanson, who reminded me a bit of Edith Piaf and swedish stripperettes who could do amazing things 😉 chakka chakka!

Amolala at the Championsleague match FC Barcelona – Bayern München

I went to see a Championsleague Football Game last night (thanks to the Papa) – I guess that is something you have to do when you live in a city like Barcelona, well at least once! And so we went to see FC Barcelona – Bayern München in Camp Nou. The stadium is not really nice, old “Betonbau” but it fits an incredible amount of people. They said there were 93.000 people and as we were so early enjoying the view and watching people coming in, I doubted until the last minute that it would really fill up.

I have to say, the Catalan fans are really lame – 90.000 people could make a lot of noise but it was really quiet, not much moving or cheering or singing. At some point some overexcited expats tried to start a “LaOla” which died two blocks later accompanied by the puzzled looks of the catalan fans. At least their team impressed by kicking the Bayerns butts (4:0). However, my favourites were the Bayern fans all dressed up in Lederhosen equipped with lots of fan stuff and flags, all cooped up in a fan cage at the top of the stadium, singing and cheering and making more noise than the entire rest of the stadium!

So it is definitely worth going to see a game when you have the chance!

hehehe, and I just learned thanks to http://www.sueddeutsche.de , that i witnessed a historical moment: “Was ich in der ersten Halbzeit gesehen habe, war das Fürchterlichste, was ich von dem FC Bayern je gesehen habe“, sagte Präsident Franz Beckenbauer.
